"Thousands of years ago, the illithids ruled a vast empire that sprawled across the Astral Sea. They were the scourge of universes, using their nautiloid vessels to cross the planes of existence and capture intelligent humanoids from hundreds of worlds. The illithids fed on the brains of these captives, inspiring the name by which they are commonly known today: {@creature mind flayer||mind flayers}.",
"None would have dared challenge them in those days, let alone depict their alien physique in such squishy dimensions.",
"Though the grip of their astral tyranny has been broken, every adventurer should acquaint themselves with the illithids' key traits—bulbous skull, sleek tentacles, purple hue, and piercing black eyes—and remain alert for signs of their renewed activity. This pattern will both familiarize you with their physical form and produce an adorable toy, sure to inflict psychic damage on any mind flayer who comes across it."
